Friend of mine pointed this out the other day, and I didn't believe him at first. Much has been made over the Mercedes GLA DLC in Mario Kart 8, where the gang can race about in flashy new entry-level luxury SUV's or a classic Mercedes racer, but I noticed something rather unusual on Toad's Turnpike:
Be that a
To be fair, those old Benzes are as plain as you could get. If it weren't for the GLA DLC, I'd've brushed it off as a coincidence.
Apologies (Oppologies?) for the shitpic, but the only other pic with that car in it was even blurrier
Kind of odd for Mercedes to subtly shill for a non-current Benz in the same game they're already shilling in, but also oddly fitting. The track is an update of one from Mario Kart 64 (1996), and Mercedes used that boxy design into the late 90s (2000 on the C/S Classes, if Wiki is correct).
Am I the only one to have noticed this?

True, but then again, both are as plain as you can get with a modernish car design.
The old E-classes were/are popular taxis in some countries as well.

I agree, and I seem to remember older Mario Karts having what looked like Crowns on Toad's Turnpike as well.
